Paleo Fried Calamari

I have always loved fried calamari! This was one thing I truly missed when I first was diagnosed with my gluten allergy. Creating this paleo fried calamari recipe was a must. It is so good and you would have no idea that this is actually paleo. The best part, is that this is so easy to whip up any time you have a craving for it. I tend to keep calamari in the freezer and I always have a batch of my paleo breading on hand, making this a fast appetizer to throw together.

Trust me, when I say these paleo fried calamari taste amazing.

One tip.

Bread the calamari and place on a parchment paper lined sheet pan and place in the refrigerator for an hour before you fry them. This helps to keep the breading on the calamari when you fry them.

Ingredients

Directions

  • Beat two eggs in a bowl. Place calamari rings in the bowl and stir to make sure all of the calamari is coated with the egg mixture.
  • Put paleo breading in a bowl and toss each piece of the calamari in the breading. Set on a sheet pan and continue with the rest of the calamari pieces. Once done, place in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  • Heat avocado oil in a cast iron skillet or another heavy bottomed pan. Once the oil is hot, add in your calamari in batches. Fry for 1 1/2 minutes on each side. You want it to be golden brown. Remove to a paper towel lined plate and salt the calamari.
  • Serve warm with cocktail sauce or marinara sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound calamari rings or whole tubes (you can cut these in to rings)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 1/2 cups Paleo breading mix

  • avocado oil (to fry, the amount will depend on the size of pan you are frying in)

  • 1 teaspoon flake salt

Directions

  • If you do not have calamari rings, go ahead and slice your calamari tubes in to rings, about 3/4 inch thick.
  • Beat the two eggs in a bowl. Place the calamari in the bowl and stir to make sure all of the calamari is coated with the egg mixture.
  • Put the 1 1/2 cups of paleo breading in a bowl and toss each piece of the calamari in the breading. Set on a sheet pan and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour. This helps the breading to adhere to the calamari.
  • Heat the avocado oil in a cast iron skillet or another heavy bottomed pan. Once your oil is hot (be careful to not let your oil begin to smoke, if it does remove pan to let it cool, this oil is too hot to fry in), add in your calamari in batches and fry for 1 1/2 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Remove on to a paper towel lined plate and salt.
  • Serve with warmed marinara sauce or cocktail sauce .
